Our first Vision Group

Our first Shanti Youth Vision Group at Parvati House was a great success. It was so exciting to get together with such a fantastic group of people and collect such awesome input. Inspired by our beloved Chef Robert’s mouthwatering profiteroles (covered in copious quantities of white and milk Belgian chocolate) we hatched a smorgasbord of brilliant ideas and plans. We found a lot of direction for the group, particularly regarding its potential for working with teenagers (we will focus more on a university age-group in Sydney). Here are some of the major questions we adressed.

·  What can we offer teens through our services?

o       Survival techniques

o       The ability to make it day to day with more ease and grace

o       The ability to stay out of trouble

o       A way to overcome bullying

o       An alternative to drugs and alcohol

o       Security

o       More money

o       More friends

o       The ability to have healthy self expression

o       The ability to be self-confident and have self love

o       More confidence

o       Healthy body image

o       Knowledge of their own innate perfection

o       The concept ‘I am loved’

o       Belief that it’s okay to be different and that difference makes one unique and magnificent

o       Life direction

o       Sense of purpose

o       Tools to achieve their dreams and aspiration

o       Empowerment

o       The ability to dream big and reach their fullest potential

·  Where to begin:

o       Performing demonstrations, speeches, and studies at schools, Universities, colleges, organizations

o       Get IYS therapists to come in to Universities for a clinic

o       Surveys around schools- what do our youth want? How can we best help meet their needs?

o       Start at open minded schools such as art colleges

o       Sport psychology- introducing new thoughtforms (Brodie has connections with footy players)

·  Organisations to fraternize with, work through and/or seek funding from:

o       Crossroads and the rotary – (How to enter adult hood)

o       PCYC

o       East Lake youth services

o       Australian Theatre For Young People

o       Yelambi

·  Fun, community building activities

o       drumming circles

o       dance parties- spiritual doof doof

o       concerts

o       Music workshops/groups

o       Sports groups

Of course, these wonderful ideas are just the beginning. If you have any suggestions, thoughts or inspirations please feel free to leave a comment! =)
